Extending heartfelt sympathies to Grace, Lynnette,Kervin and the entire Blades. I deeply saddened by the loss of Joe, After my father passed Joe assumed that roll in my life.
He was well respected by everyone in my family. Joe accompanied me when I closed on my home over 20years ago. Because of his vast background he asked questions of Jobco which were lated addressed. he introduced me to the neighbor across the street who husband was his tenant, After that Trootie and I becamed friendly and looked out for each other. After taking a severance from DTCC hewas sure to tell me make sure I applied for my pension before the severance ran out because he knew and had done all this before.
Joe will be missed but God saw he was getting tired and call him to his eternal restt.
Take your rest Bladesy in the arms of Jesus.
Family remember weeping may endure for awhile but joy cometh in the morning.
Rest in peace

Grace, thank you for sharing this special tribute for your husband, Joseph. Wow, 54 years - a lifetime - I would never have guessed it looking at you! Nothing can fill the space left in your life; I hope you know you will continue to be our hearts and prayers. I only visited the one time during Joe's illness, but it was an honor to meet such a loving and faithful servant. "I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid." We love you and are here for care and assistance in any any way you may need. May joy, thanksgiving and peace be with you all. Lovingly, Rose Walker and Family

Joseph was my cousin, and I remember meeting him when he first came from Barbados. My father Carlos Vernon Blades loved each of his brothers and sisters, Erdean, Joan, Colin and Joseph and held each in high esteem. Joseph was closest to my brother Carl Michael Blades who died in 2006. Joe was a warm, funny, intelligent man who cared deeply for Barbados and his family. Julio, my husband and I had the opportunity to see Barbados through his eyes, when we, along with Monica Walker, organized the Blades Family Reunion. We never knew there we had so many relatives living there. We are so grateful for the time we spent together and for the wonderful memories that we can always cherish. Rest In Peace and May God wrap you to his bosom. Much love to the family, Julio and Lois Blades Rosado.

Joe and I both served in the West India Regiment, which was part of the Caribbean Federation. The regiment was run by the British army. I know Joe therefore for many years. He was always ready to help others and he was an exceptionally good fellow. After he left the army we did not see each other for many years until we both joined the Ex Soldiers of the West India Regiment Association at a meeting in Brooklyn, NY. Over the years we traveled to the many caribbean countries which were all a part of the Caribbean Federation. Joe always played a pivotal role in arranging these wonderful trips. He even made sure that ex soldiers who could not afford to attend, could do so.
At this time I would like to say condolences to his family and to him, "farewell my brother till we meet again."
Doug Mayers, a fellow WIA Ex Soldier.

You meet some people in life, and the time shared always appears to be much longer than it really was. That is because of the joy and warmth, the person brings to your life. You often wonder, why couldn't I meet this person before. Joe was one of those people. I met Joe a little over ten years, when his Agent retired, and i look over as his agent, but it seems much longer. He was always very cheerful, and positive in his outlook, and that made the job that Grace took on, seem to be easier than it really was. Providing care as she did was really above and beyond. Nothing was too much to do for Joe, whether i was speaking to her on the phone or visiting the home, never once did I hear her complain, or sound frustrated. Grace you are really a special person. To Joe a live well lived, to Grace a job well done. I know that the family will all miss him greatly. Treasure the memories, they will wipe away many a tear, and put a smile on your faces. May God bless you all, and give you the strength to deal with your loss. Rest In Peace Joe.

Officer Edward Macari posted a condolence
Friday, May 22, 2020
I Officer Edward Macari will always have fond memories of my co worker Officer Joe Blades. We retired the same date September 05, 2002, from Queensboro Correctional Facility. Prior to our retirement we spent the last few years of our careers working together as partners on the 5 AM to 1 PM shift. Joe was the morning dining hall officer and I was the morning kitchen Officer. While working in the correctional facitity Joe Blades was the type of Officer that you always knew had your back. and always took care of his assigned job responsibilities, so we complimented one and other as I was the same type of Officer as Joe Blades. Those few years we worked together prior to our retirement we became friendly at our work place and out side of our work place. Joe was 17 years older than me but we had many of the same interests and family values. Joe and I were both small time landlords, we often talked about finances, sports, etc. During past conversations Joe and I believed that wedding vows were sacared and you take wedding vows seriously and marrage was forever. Joe was married over 50 years before passing away last week which is an example how couples should live their lives. Currently I have been married 32 years and counting. After our retirements we kept in touch by phone every few months, even after 2004 when I sold me Queens N. Y. home and relocated my family up state New York over 200 miles away from Joe 's house located in Westbury Long Island New York. Joe Blades will be missed. To his wife, children, grand children, siblings, I wanted to express my condolances. In case you need my E Mail contact it is dimacari@aol.com. Joe Blades Rest in peace my friend.
