Obituary of Earlene Melissa Jenkins McClure
In the early morning hours of Sunday, November 24, 2013, Earline Melissa Jenkins McClure, was called from labor to reward.
She is pre-deceased by her Father & Mother, George and Julia Brown Jenkins of Ravenel, South Carolina. Also her three brothers, Leo, Sylvester and Herbert and her two sisters, Harlequin Jenkins (1980), Nordica Washington (2010) have preceded her in death.
Earline was born in Ravenel, SC on March 1, 1922. She attended Charleston County Schools and later moved to Manhattan, New York and later to Amityville, Long Island. While living and working there, she met her husband, Wendell McClure and they have shared 55 years of marriage. She worked at Pilgrim State Hospital as a nurse.
She had one son, George Rogers, who died at 15 yrs of age. She was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church in Amityville, NY. She was also a member of the Eastern Stars, Excelsior Chapter of New York. She and Wendell later moved to Newtown, Connecticut.
Upon their retirement, they moved to Virginia Beach, Va and built a new home which they have shared until her death. They joined Piney Grove Baptist Church in 1990 and she faithfully served on the Usher Ministry, Angelic Gospel Choir, and on the Senior Missionary Ministry.
She leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband, Wendell Gene McClure and daughter, Cheryl Moore of Charlotte, NC and 3 grandchildren - Cheryl Ann Moore(NC), Tammy (MD)and Charles (NC), and six great-grandchildren. Earline will be greatly missed also by two special nieces of Charleston, SC- Lorraine Washington and Perneather Watson; also close friend, Willie Mae Smith, (CT) and devoted friends, Joseph & Moncella McCree, devoted nurse & close friend , Faith Shuler (Virginia Beach) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
