Obituary of Charles William James

Charles William James 84 of Wyandanch, NY went home Wednesday January 1st, 2014 at Gurwin Nursing Home. He was born October 25th, 1929 in Belhaven, VA son of the late Ernest James and Emma Sheppard James Charles attended school in Belhaven,VA. He left home at an early age. One of his first jobs was shucking oysters at the Oyster House in Maryland, little did he know at the time he would meet his future wife Virginia Mae Smith in which they married on June 3rd 1950. While in Maryland they both became members of Church of God and Christ where they were baptisted and got saved. On December 4th 1952 He enlisted in the United States Army, due to Charles refusing to shoot off the gun he was assigned to the kitchen, where he mastered his cooking skills and became head cook. Charles served for two years leaving with an honorable discharge on December 3rd 1954. Charles and his wife continued to live in Maryland until moving to New York where he started working for Edmos Textiles in Glen Cove, NY. Charles worked as a plant worker working his way up to Floor Supervisor, while working there he and his wife opened up their home to emergency foster care. Charles worked at Edmos for 8 years until being laid off in 1977. Charles then started working for C & H Precision Tool Inc. where he operated the machines making diamond tools for three years. Charles then start working for Driveways Inc. in 1981 raking and shoveling asphalt, he would always come home with a story to tell about what went on at the work place. Charles worked there for 25 years retired in 2006 at the age of 75.
