Obituary of Dorothy F. Goins
Dorothy Forte Goins was born on July 24, 1924 in Pittsboro, North Carolina. At
the age of 2 she was adopted by Dr. Allan Forte and Ola Mae Forte who was the
sister of her birth mother Ruth Mcintyre Christian. She attended public school
in Chicago and Oklahoma City and private school in Asheville, NC. She
graduated from Allen Methodist High School in 1940. She graduated from
Bennett College in 1944 with a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts.
In 1946 she married Leo Kimbrough and they had one daughter, Delano. Their
marriage was dissolved in 19SO. She met John M. Goins in New York and they
married in 1951. They resided in Harlem and Queens before finally settling
down in Lakeview, NY in 1959. They had one son, John Jr. She worked at
Queens College as a Registrar's Assistant from 1956 to 1963 before resigning
after the birth of her son John. She returned to work in 1969 for the Malverne
School District as a Senior Account Clerk until her retirement in 1986. After her
retirement she spent several years volunteering for the Literacy Volunteers of
America in various Nassau County libraries.
John, her beloved husband of 58 years, pre-deceased her in 2009. She moved to
Brentwood the following year to be near her son John, Jr. During her lifetime
Dorothy took great pride in her children and grandsons, was a loyal Mets and
Knicks fan and an avid reader.
She peacefully went home to be with the Lord on August 24, 2014. She is predeceased
by her sisters, Pauline Littlejohn and Charlotte Turner and survived by
a brother Allan Forte and sister Gloria Henderson. She leaves to cherish her
memory her daughter Delano Kimbrough of Bloomfield, NJ, her son John Goins,
Jr. of Brentwood, NY, her daughter-in-law Melissa Goins, her grandsons,
Connor Kimbrough of Bloomfield, NJ and John Goins Ill and numerous relatives
and friends.
