Obituary of Charles Lionel Powell

On December 27, 2016, GOD called Charles Lionel Powell to rest at the age of 76. Charles, son of Williebelle Poole-Powell and Roosevelt Powell was a twin who was reared in New York, New York on September 5, 1940 and resided in Long Island. Charles was a Son, Brother, Uncle, Husband, Father, and a dear friend to many. Charles had three Children, several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Charles worked at the Veterans Hospital for many years. Charles sang bass in the doo-wop musical group called the ?Desires? at the age of 19 while attending Franklin High. He also composed hit records along with others for the group such as ?Hey Lena? and ?Let It Please Be You? and was well-known around the world. Charles leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life, his sister Juanita Gaddy and a host of Nieces, Nephews and Friends, including his dear friends Dawn and Larry Clayton and family who cared for him until the end. His sister Estelle Powell preceded him in death on June 5, 1992. Charles lived a beautiful, full and happy life and will always be in the hearts of many.
