Obituary of Annie Mae Vaughn
Annie Mae Vaughan was born on September 16, 1940 in Catherine, Alabama. She was the fourth child of fourteen born to the union of the late Arthur C. McMillian and Annie McMillian.
Annie Mae received her early education at the Prairie Mission School. In May of 1962, she graduated from Millerfaree High School. Holding her diploma in one hand and her bus ticket to New York in the other, Annie Mae left Alabama immediately following her graduation to pursue her dreams.
Annie Mae worked various jobs while working toward her nursing degree. Once she graduated, she spent her career doing what she loved, taking care of people. She worked for many years at the Brunswick Hospital Center in Amityville, as well as the Parkview Nursing Home in Massapequa. Annie Mae retired from the nursing field due to her own health issues, but she continued to look out for others.
Annie Mae had a strong upbringing in the Baptist church. She was baptized as a child at the Boiling Spring Baptist Church. She was a member there until she relocated from Alabama to New York. Once in New York, Annie Mae joined the Holy Trinity Baptist Church. She was an active and faithful member for as long as her health allowed. She remained a member until the time of her death.
As a child, Annie Mae enjoyed sports and was a member of her high school basketball team. She enjoyed knitting in her spare time. She loved to travel and see different places and she truly loved playing bingo! Spending time with her family and friends was something else that she loved to do.
In 2014, Annie Mae relocated to California to live with her sister, Jessie, due to her continued failing health. She enjoyed being near her sister and spoke with all her siblings and friends over the phone often.

McMillian, Willis McMillian, Otis McMillian, Charles McMillian and Curtis McMillian; her sisters: Eleanor McMillian and Carrie Lee Burrell.
