Obituary of Genevieve Rosalee Humes

Genevieve Rosalie Humes (nee King) was born on July 10, 1937 in Belize City, Belize, Central America to the late Catherine Ann Flowers and Samuel King. The oldest of three siblings, she was married to Horace Humes, who predeceased her. That union produced one daughter, Dorla Humes. She attended Ebenezer Primary School and Wesley College in Belize City, Belize. She was primarily a homemaker but spent some time as a lottery agent. Jenny migrated to the United States in 1976 and settled in Brooklyn, New York. She worked as a Medical Coordinator with The Association for Neurologically Impaired Brain Injured Children, (ANIBIC) in Bayside, New York. In the early 1990s, Jenny moved to Amityville, Long Island and became an active member of the Amity Villas Community. After retirement, she took on the job of caring for the neighborhood children before and after school, forming lasting and loving relationships with the families. She joined Grace Community Church where she was a missionary and a member of the Women’s Fellowship. Jenny loved to travel, visit family and dance. Her favorite travel locations were Barbados where her daughter resided, and California where she reunited with countless Belizeans – family and friends. She leaves to mourn, her daughter, Dorla; son-in-law, Everton ‘Tony’ Downes; sister Yvonne Williams; sister-in-law, Sylvia Humes; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, including the Banner, Burgess, Goodin, Humes, Ramsay, Rhaburn, Smith, Welch, Williams and Valentine families as well as a wide network of friends. She is predeceased by her brother John King.
