Obituary of Wardell Nathaniel Lewis
Wardell Nathaniel Lewis was born June 6, 1941, in Williamsburg County, Hemingway, South Carolina, the son of the late Waddell Lewis and Willie Ruth Gordon-Lewis. He was known by his friends as Nathaniel and was the first child of two children.
Nathaniel completed his undergraduate studies at the States University of New York College at old Westbury. He received the Bachelor of Science in Planning and Urban Studies. He later received his Master of Science in Public Administration and Executive Management from Metropolitan College of New York and Honorary Doctoral of Divinity and PhD from the Universal Church of Life, Modesto California, Nathaniel was the Chairman and co-founder of the Bedford Stuyvesant Carter Cadets, Incorporation and Chairman and founder of African American Law Enforcement Organization, Inc. President of Ronald H. Brown United Democratic Club, Brooklyn, New York,; New York Associate Membership in the Federation of Alcoholism Counselors, Inc.; Nathaniel retired from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as Customs and Border Protection Supervising Officer after completing 37 years and 10 months of service in 2021.
Nathaniel Lewis became a member of Bridge Street African Wesley Methodist Epicostal Church in November 1988. He was active in the church as a member of the Junior Steward Board, President of the South Carolina Club, First Vice President of the Security and Safety Force, and was the Assistant Class Leader of Class #35, and a member of Class #1 at his home church, Chavis African Methodist Epicostal Church in Williamsburg County, Hemingway, South Carolina. On November 7, 2021 at 11:40 AM, Wardell Nathaniel Lewis went home to rest.
Nathaniel had one daughter and two sons from his 1st marriage to Carol Florence Semper and later a union with Carrie Caballero they had two sons and in a 2nd marriage to Bernice Coleman they had one daughter and an adopted daughter April Diane Stevenson.
Wardell Nathaniel Lewis is survived by his wife, Bernice and three daughters, Yvonne Denise and son-in-law Sidney Williams of McDonough, Georgia, April Diane Stevenson of Amityville, NY; Raisa Canas Lewis-Youngblood and son-in-law Albert Youngblood of Vancouver, Washington and four sons Wardell Nathaniel Jr., Malcolm Jamal and daughter-in-law Michelle Johnson-Lewis of Stockbridge, Georgia, Ajene Anthony of Phillipsburg, New Jersey and Malik Lamar of Jersey City, New Jersey, and grandchildren Lailani, Nicholas, Dayton Duwayne, Noah Daniel Williams, Elijah Zuel, Wardell Nathaniel II, Josiah Jamal, Kayla Lee, Maia Lynn Loraine, Amaya Asia and two nieces: Kimberly Battle-Waymer and Tiffany Nicole Battle and nephew Elroy Waymer, and a host of other relatives and friends.
