Obituary of Minnie B. Nixon

Minnie Beatrice Nixon was born on June 9, 1926 to Sadie and Robert Johnson in Port Washington, New York. She was one of six children having, the distinction of being a twin to her brother Richard. On April 24, 2022, Minnie entered the gates of Eternal Life, at the Hospice Inn in Melville, NY. Minnie lived in Port Washington for most of her life, where she received her education, and began her Christian experience as a member of Zion Baptist Church under Rev. J.B. Watts. On August 17, 1946, Minnie married Floyd Louis Nixon. Their love and commitment to each other flourished for more than 57 years. To this loving union seven children were born. Minnie, as a devoted wife and mother, courageously faced life with faith, grace, style, strength, and hope. It was with those attributes that Minnie was able to endure the death of her husband Floyd, and five of her seven children (Chance, Floyd Jr., George, Richard, and Daryll). …but we also glory our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character and character, hope. Romans 5:3-4 NIV After the death of her husband in 2005, Minnie moved to Westbury to live with her daughter and son-in-law Gloria and Rufino Arzu. There she enjoyed worshipping at Shore Temple AME Zion Church in Amityville, NY where Rev. Dr. David Robinson is the Pastor. Minnie was a great homemaker who had a decorator’s eye for design. She appreciated high fashion and stylishly dressed from head to toe. She enjoyed bowling; loved to go shopping; collecting figurines, especially angels; and watching television, with a keen interest in community and world affairs. Precious memories of her life are shared by her loving daughters: Gloria Nixon Arzu (Rufino) of Westbury, NY; Sheryl Nixon Baylor (Juan) of Sacramento, CA; two affectionate sisters-in-laws Katherine Nixon Myers, Mollie Nixon Muller), 18 caring grandchildren, and a multitude of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. All of whom will cherish her life forever. Floyd’s Prayer In the name of Jesus, we pray today to ask for blessings for all mankind. We ask for blessings for all those that are in hospitals and institutions across this land. We ask for blessings for all those sick in their homes and elsewhere. We ask for blessings for all leaders in all nations across this great land of ours. We ask for blessings for all those that are hurting for one reason or another. We ask for a special for our children, so that they may find their answers in Jesus, not in bottles pills, powders, or needles. And we ask God, to keep on blessing us as He has, and we must thank Him in the only way we know, that is with a lot of love, praise and prayer. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen “What is dying? She is an object and I stand watching her till at last she fades from the horizon, and someone at my side says, “She is gone!” Gone where? Gone from my sight, that is all. She is just as large in the masts, hull and spars as she was when I saw her, and just as able to bear her load of living freight to its destination.
